Good Medicine Magazine Shoot : Nature’s Express

I was recently contacted by a staff writer for Good Medicine Magazine to do a photo session of a Yuma couple profiled in one of their articles. The magazine is published by the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine which is committed to promoting health and wellness through innovative programs and ethical research.

The article is about local couple Dr. Carl Myers and Jean Myers. Dr. Myers is an oncologist and his wife Jean teaches cooking classes for cancer prevention and survival, sponsored by the Yuma Regional Medical Center and The Cancer Project. The couple co-founded Nature’s Express here in Yuma. Nature’s Express offers a healthy alternative to fast food. Everything on the menu is plant based and there are a lot of delicious things to choose from.

During the session I got to know Carl and Jean a bit more. They are extremely nice, smart and down to earth. They did an awesome job during the shoot too. They also are very knowledgeable about healthy food and wellness. I have to admit, I am a junk food person. I love my burgers, fries and coke. I have been trying to get my act together and eat healthier. So I was happy to talk with them about food alternatives. I had never tried soy-based meat before so I was excited to try something new. After the session I grabbed myself a vegan BLT and an iced tea. I was pleasantly surprised with my healthy lunch. The BLT was tasty and the iced tea was very refreshing. They also have soy ice cream in waffle cones in time for the hot Yuma summer!

Here are some photos from our session. We took portraits of them in and around their restaurant because the article will focus on how they are encouraging Yuma to eat healthier.
