Reyes Family

The Reyes family was moving to another state and wanted something to remind them of their life in southwest. They wanted to get photos taken at the Imperial Sand Dunes just outside of Yuma, AZ. I was happy to take their photos there because it is such a scenic place. Here are some of my favorites from their session.

Mini Sessions: Yuma Photographer

I am so excited to be offering spring mini sessions. The sessions will be scheduled on May 20, 2012 only. They are the perfect opportunity to get some family photos and photos of the kids having fun. They would make a wonderful Father’s Day gift too. The sessions will be inspired by Alice in Wonderland. I will have props and accessories for both boys and girls. Please send me an email if you are interested and I will give you all the details.

The following are the time slots that are available. I will update this post to reflect the bookings.

9:00am-9:30am booked

Please read the following before booking:

Full payment plus tax is due at the time of session in the form of cash or check.

Mini session prices apply to groups of 6 people or less.

Please arrive 10 minutes before your scheduled session so that we can get you situated and start the session on time. Unfortunately, if you are late for your session we cannot make up time at the end. You will receive a call a few days before the session with instructions on where to meet up to ensure everyone is on time.

Keep little ones happy during the session If you need to bring a snack or special treats to accomplish this feel free.

After your session you will receive a password to your gallery via email. You will choose your 5 images from the gallery. The 5 images on your CD will be fully edited. You will also receive a photo release which allows you to order prints from the lab of your choice.

Cody : Yuma Photographer

Cody contacted me to take some modeling images for his portfolio. We decided to use downtown Yuma as the backdrop and I think we got some great shots. He is a natural in front of the camera so it was hard to take a bad image of him. We took some before sunset and after the sun went down I got out my studio lighting. Here are just a few of my favorites from the session.

Denise & David: Yuma Wedding Photographer

I was so glad to be a part of Denise and David’s wedding day! I had fun taking their engagement photos and I knew the wedding would be more of the same. The day started at the Hilton Garden Inn on a gorgeous fall day. I met Denise and her bridesmaids as they were getting ready. Denise had a big smile on her face and if she was nervous she didn’t show it. She was excited that her wedding day was finally here. Her maid of honor helped her into her dress and her mother put on her veil. Here are some detail images from the day. Laurie Davis of Circle the Date Events did a wonderful job planning the entire event. Denise and David choose deep purple and dark brown as their colors. I just loved that color combination. Susie King of A Piece of Cake created the couple’s cake which was incredible.After the girls were all ready we went downstairs to take some photos of just the ladies. Denise and David didn’t want to see each other before the ceremony so I took the photos of the girls and my second shooter Chris Bermudo from Chris Bermudo Photography took the photos of the guys afterward. We were in luck because that day there was a car show going on. The owner of this vintage car made my day when he let us use it for the photos and even moved it into the shade for better lighting.Denise was a gorgeous bride and I loved her dress! St. Paul’s Cultural Center was the location for the ceremony. Before the ceremony Denise peeked out the front curtains to watch as the guests arrived. The flower girls posed for me as we were waiting for the ceremony to begin. I took this image of Denise and her parents right before the ceremony.The ceremony was both beautiful and emotional.I love these images I took right after the ceremony of the happy couple. The reception was held at the Cocopah RV and Golf Resort. Denise and David danced a beautiful first dance together and then it was on with the rest of the reception. I think everyone had a great time…the dance floor was packed the whole night.

Cassie & Rick Engaged: Yuma Photographer

When I met Cassie nearly seven years ago I knew we would be friends. We both had a passion for art and photography and a love of animals. We met while teaching art to elementary students here in Yuma. We shared a small art office and both taught art on a cart for half of a school year while her new school was being built. I missed her when she moved over to her new school, but I was so happy for her. She did such an amazing job starting up the art program at Sunrise Elementary. She is a super talented art teacher. One of those teachers that goes the extra mile and takes time to know all of her students. She taught in Yuma for several years before moving to the Phoenix area to continue her teaching career.

Even though our lives have gone in separate directions we have kept in touch over the years. So, when I got the news that Cassie got engaged I couldn’t be happier for her. When she asked me to take her engagement photos I was honored to capture this special time in her life.

We met up in Old Town Scottsdale on a Saturday afternoon. I had not met Rick until right before the session, but I could tell right away they made the perfect couple. You can see how much they care for each other just by looking at them

Cassie had seen images taken in this particular alleyway on the web and wanted some photos taken there. A big thank you to my friend Val for finding this exact spot for us.

Love this one with the ivy and the building too.Cassie and Rick were great sports. How many couples would climb a tree for a photo? Love how these came out.

Being that Cassie is an art teacher we had to get a photo with this very famous sculpture by Robert Indiana. It is such a popular attraction in Scottsdale that we had to wait our turn to take photos next to it. Even though the lighting wasn’t perfect and we were rushed by tourists I think we got a pretty great image.

We went to McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park for these images. I loved the trees and the lighting over there.

Cassie and Rick will be tying the knot in a private ceremony on the island of Kauai, Hawaii. Congrats you two!!!

WPPI 2012: Yuma Photographer

It has been a busy few months so the blog has been neglected. I am finally getting around to blogging what I have been up to the past couple months….

First a quick post about WPPI 2012. I went with my good friend Tawnee Miller of Serendipity Photography by Tawnee. We had a wonderful time attending classes and meeting new photographers. I think one of the highlights of our trip was attending a workshop put on by Charleton Churchill. Charleton is a very talented photographer from Northern California. We got up before sunrise and drove to the middle of nowhere in 27 degree weather. But it was so worth it! We took some photos of models in a dry river bed with different lighting techniques. Then we headed to the strip for the second half of the day. Here are some images I took during the workshop.

Holly & Jesse’s Vow Renewal: Yuma Photographer

This past fall I got to photograph Holly and Jesse’s vow renewal. They have been married for ten years now and they wanted to have the church ceremony and formal reception that they didn’t get to have the first time around. I think vow renewals are such a wonderful idea. Not only to celebrate the years of marriage, but to honor the family that a couple has created together.

They had a beautiful ceremony at Immaculate Conception Church. I loved the photo I got of Holly and Jesse walking with their three sons afterwards.

We took some portraits of them at the Territorial Prison because that was one of the first places that Jesse took Holly in Yuma. Holly is a creative lady. She made some signs for them to hold in the photos. I also got a few photos with their sons included. They are a beautiful family.

Holly and Jesse had a reception at The Hilton Garden Inn. The room was decorated in yellow and gray. I love that color combination. There was a candy bar for the guests to enjoy. There was also a beautiful cake made by Yuma Couture Cakes and amazing cookies made by Alena’s Sweets. Everyone had a great time dancing at the reception.

I had so much fun with this family. We went out in the desert near their home and took some portraits. The view was amazing! They are such an adorable family and we got some great images out there. Here are a few of my favorites. After the desert I set up some studio lighting in their home. I always love it when my clients have creative ideas for their photo session. The Gill’s wanted to do some retro style photos. They had some props and we took the photos in their kitchen. I also used some Photoshop actions to make the photos have a retro feel. I love how they came out!

Christy’s Rock the Dress Session: Yuma wedding photographer

I am so glad I am finally sharing these images! Christy is a gorgeous bride and I just loved her vintage inspired dress. She was married in September in Pisgah, Alabama. I couldn’t be her wedding photographer, but I am so glad I got to do this “rock the dress” session for her. She wanted some photos of her in the dress that had an Arizona feel. So we went out to the Desert Mines Museum for the first part of the session. Here are some of my favorites. In these next two images we went out into the desert. The sun was almost gone so the sky was turning a nice orange. I brought my portable lighting to light Christy otherwise she would be in silhouette. It was a little windy and the wind blew my light over a couple times, but it was so worth it. Christy was glad she brought her hiking boots. She was wearing them under her dress. I was glad that Christy drives a big pick-up. As we were leaving she commented that there is something empowering about wearing a wedding dress and hiking boots while driving a truck through the desert. I would have to agree.

Jessica & Craig: Yuma Wedding Photographer

I was so happy to be a part of Jessica and Craig’s big day. They are such an easy going and fun couple. I had a great time with them! They actually had already been married, but they wanted to have a church ceremony and reception in Jessica’s hometown of Somerton, AZ. It turned out to be the perfect day for a wedding celebration. The ceremony was at Immaculate Heart of Mary in Somerton and the reception was held in Jessica’s grandparents’s backyard. Here are some of my favorites from the day.

I took some photos of Jessica getting ready. First she had her hair styled at M’Lady M’lord Hair Design and Salon. Then it was off to have her makeup done at The Painted Mane Hair & Nail Corral. Then we went to the Cocopah Casino where Jessica finished getting ready. Her dress was so gorgeous! The ceremony was beautiful. Here are a couple of my favorites from the church. After the ceremony we took some photos of the bridal party at one of the bridesmaid’s homes. The place was beautiful and we got some amazing images. I also got a chance to take some photos of Jessica and Craig alone. These are my favorites from the day. Then it was off to the backyard reception in Somerton. Their first dance was a beautiful moment right as the sun was setting.

I love the images I got of the father-daughter dance.

This little guy had fun dancing during the reception. A special thanks goes out to Chris Bermudo of Chris Bermudo Photography for being my second shooter at this wedding. If you look closely you can see him in the background of this image.
