Pandora Shoot: Yuma Photographer

When I started doing photography, way back in the days of film, it was an artistic expression. It was about what I wanted to say with my photography. I love my job and that I get to collaborate with clients and create photographs that are artistic while telling the story of their lives. But every once in a while I get an itch to create just for me.

Pandora started as a simple idea. We have all read the story of Pandora, the first woman in greek mythology, who opened a box that let sickness, sadness, death and every other horror into the world. But I wanted to focus on the very end of the story. When she opens the box one last time and out comes hope. My photos weren’t meant to be a literal translation of the story, but I just used it as a guide for the project. I used the three young models to symbolize “hope” in my version.

I decided to set the photo shoot at night and I used portable studio lighting as my main light source. I also used a video light and the ambient lighting to create a mood. It was a little challenging because it was so dark in the woods, but everyone did an amazing job!

I am so honored that this personal project was featured in Child Model Magazine’s Holiday 2013 issue. They published one of my images along with an interview. Thank you to my models: Sierrah Fernandez (Pandora),  Sierra Bomhower, Kylie Conley, and Ivanka Garcia. Also thank you to everyone that helped with the shoot. Heather, Tina, Sierrah and Robert you all did a great job of getting the girls ready, kept them focused and helped me carry all my equipment into the woods in the dark. Another thank you goes out to Andrea Hauck for the headshot she took of me to accompany the article. You can buy both digital and printed copies at childmodelmagazine.com.
