Lynsey and Kermit expecting: Yuma Photographer

I was so happy when Lynsey contacted me to do her maternity photos. What is a better subject than the miracle of life? I am so glad that I got to capture this very important and exciting time in Lynsey and Kermit’s lives. I talked on the phone with Lynsey about some ideas she had for the photos. I was so excited when she emailed some photos to me from some fashion mags that featured some pregnant models. I love doing photos that have an editorial look to them so this was right up my alley. I did some research of my own looking at some inspirational fashion photog’s work and together we came up with some great ideas for the session.

I met Lynsey and Kermit at their home. They both are such easy going people and we clicked right away. I wanted to capture some images that looked like their everyday life. So we started the session with some relaxed portraits in their bedroom.

We also took some in their living room and in their backyard.

Next we took a short car ride to the Gila River, the sun was getting low in the sky so we had to move fast. These are some of my favorite images that I have taken. It doesn’t hurt that they are such a good looking couple 🙂

I love the ethereal quality of the next image.

After the river I set up my studio lights and backdrop at their home so we could get some studio images. Lynsey had emailed me a photo of Heidi Klum when she was pregnant and she wanted to try to do something similar. It was an ad for Heidi Klum’s Lavish maternity clothing line. I loved the photo and was excited to try to do a similar photo with Lynsey. The b&w photo on the right is the version we came up with. While it isn’t exact I think it gives the same feel as the Heidi photo and I love how its not a typical maternity photo. We did some photos of Lynsey in her long dress too.

Then we tried some studio images with a black background. Lynsey is such a natural model.

Soon after these photos were taken Lynsey and Kermit welcomed their little boy into the world. He was born November 21, 2010 and weighed 6lbs. and 14 oz. They named him Kevin Koaikaikaali’i, but they call him Ikaika. His middle name is Hawaiian and means strong warrior chief because he is the first born. Ikaika alone means strong in Hawaiian and is part of his father’s Hawaiian name.

I will be photographing the little guy very soon. Lynsey and Kermit wanted to wait to do family and baby portraits of him until he was more alert and possibly sitting up. I am so excited for his upcoming session. I have already met him and he is such a handsome little guy. I can’t wait to get him in front of my camera 🙂
