When I started doing photography, way back in the days of film, it was an artistic expression. It was about what I wanted to say with my photography. I love my job and that I get to collaborate with clients and create photographs that are artistic while telling the story of their lives. But every once in a while I get an itch to create just for me.
Pandora started as a simple idea. We have all read the story of Pandora, the first woman in greek mythology, who opened a box that let sickness, sadness, death and every other horror into the world. But I wanted to focus on the very end of the story. When she opens the box one last time and out comes hope. My photos weren’t meant to be a literal translation of the story, but I just used it as a guide for the project. I used the three young models to symbolize “hope” in my version.
I decided to set the photo shoot at night and I used portable studio lighting as my main light source. I also used a video light and the ambient lighting to create a mood. It was a little challenging because it was so dark in the woods, but everyone did an amazing job!
